GPS, or Global Positioning Satellite, tracking has been around for years now. Your conception, therefore, of a vehicle tracking system is probably a little outmoded.

You probably think that a vehicle tracking system can just tell you where a tracked vehicle is at any moment in time. Possibly, then you can determine its speed by taking average location readings over a period of time.

The New Vehicle Tracking System
Well, yes, in one sense and no in many others. The modern GPS tracking system is well capable of telling you where your vehicle is – and it is also able to tell you how fast it is going. On top of that, though, it can tell you in what direction it is travelling, how much fuel it is using, how fast exactly it is going at any given point of time, how much oil it is using: basically anything at all.

The modern vehicle tracking system can tell you so much about the vehicle you are tracking that you might as well actually be in it, or looking under its bonnet.

The way all this works is a lot simpler than you might have thought. Sensory information is simply relayed up to the tracking control centre along with positioning information: so you end up using the data stream that tells you where your vehicle is, to piggyback in a load of information on how it is, and where it is going.

The results, for fleet managers and companies all over are sensational. With a robust suite of end user reports and software functions, a fleet manager can use the modern vehicle tracking system to create a complete picture of the successes and failures of his or her whole fleet protocol.
